Growing up as a woman in the 1980s wasn’t easy. Growing up as a woman in Japan in the 1980s, you had even more stacked against you. Growing up as a woman in the 1980s and in Japan and with conviction to become a successful entrepreneur in a highly saturated fashion industry? Most would have thought it was simply the fantasy of a young girl who loved gorgeous clothes and designer bags.
Yuka Kashiwabara knew it was more than a fantasy, though… she knew it would be her life. Along the path that life takes each of us, there are pivotal moments that affect the trajectory of who we are and who we become. It is at those moments when someone believed in us; someone pushed us past our comfort zone. Someone came along and became the wind beneath our wings, so that we could soar.
When Yuka faced obstacles, the people around her lifted her up. Wind Beneath My Wings is the next chapter in passing this same generosity around the world so that we can all become freer to uplift each other; to become the wind beneath each other’s wings.
Throughout the challenges and obstacles of life, Yuka tenaciously and fiercely committed herself to simultaneously uplifting others and fulfilling her own dreams.
Yuka’s team of artists and creatives at LeSportsac were the wind beneath her wings. Artistry and creativity are what bring us to life, and that is why we need the Wind Beneath My Wings Foundation now more than ever.
Yuka distinctly remembers the moment that this became clear to her when her mentor, Sumiko, told her:
“No Yuka, you do not have to be thankful for me.
If I give you something and you get to the point you can return it, give it to somebody else, not to me… You see, when you get to the point you can offer or give something to someone—give to another—so it is to be going around. Whatever I give to you, you don’t have to return to me.
Give to someone else—that way it is going to be passing all over the world.”
